Keeping in mind that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, this can be an exhilarating question to contemplate. According to Richard Rudd, each human is born with their own unique genius and the higher purpose is to share this unique genius with the world. This becomes one’s own unique contribution or legacy for the benefit of others and future generations. It is important to clarify the word genius for this discussion. The original root of the word genius refers to overseeing spiritual guidance. The meaning, therefore, expands beyond the simplified definition reserved for those deemed with higher intellect, but rather represents the zero point where creation exists. The Sage Mooiji states that we are more than the physical body or mental thoughts. The physical body is merely the host for the spirit, and the mind is trapped in concepts of past, future, and the present moment. Rather, genius (spirit) is timeless, shapeless, quiet, calm, joyful, and endless.
Thich Nhat Hahn wrote the phrase I recite often, I am a spiritual being having a human experience. I recall during my first pregnancy in an effort to manage the physical discomfort, I continually reminded myself of this saying while attempting to stay in direct experience with my spiritual being rather than my physical being.
So, what is your higher purpose?
To discover one’s purpose we must learn to let go of external expectations of who we should be rather than who we are. Early in childhood, we learn through our parents, caregivers, and culture, just what is expected of us and how we should think and behave. These are all external distractions keeping us from knowing our true center and spiritual essence.
The process of letting go is an act of vulnerability that creates space within so that awareness can expand and illuminate aspects of one’s spiritual core. The space of silence and the space of void is where knowledge becomes unnecessary and becoming a mere observer void of judgment resides.
Letting go of the programming for who and what we should be creating space for connecting with the feeling that you are enough and that you are an important part of a bigger whole. Your spirit is connected with the living force of creation and existence. The purpose becomes sharing that genius with the living force so that our evolutionary path continues to evolve.
Again, what is your higher purpose?
Go find that genius within and honor its existence. You are enough and you have a unique genius to share, remind yourself that it is wrong to attempt to measure the genius, as the genius is not measurable as it is infinite in being.
